Alan Howard, President and CEO
Alan Howard is President and Chief Executive Officer of Burroughs Payment Systems Inc (Burroughs), one of the financial industry’s most respected companies specializing in check imaging and banking automation. Mr. Howard has led the organization since its inception in February 2010. His management philosophy spurs Burroughs ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in design and manufacturing for an extensive product and services line.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Howard was President of Unisys Payment Systems, responsible for a worldwide business unit with $200 million in annual sales. Earlier in his 22 year career with Unisys Corporation he held numerous leadership positions, including General Manager of Financial Services Europe, Vice President and Managing Partner Asia Pacific, and Vice President and General Manager for Payment Systems North America
Mr. Howard served as Board Director of Unisys Ltd for Professional Services and was responsible for the successful deployment of high speed check processing and outsourcing services into the UK market which lead to Unisys processing 80% of the UK check volume in partnership with the country’s Top 3 Banks. He has also served on the board of two Unisys International offshore ventures, Synercom Ltd in the Philippines, and Tata Unisys Ltd in India.
Jerry Doubler, CFO
As Chief Financial Officer for Burroughs, Jerry Doubler brings a consistent record of trusted financial leadership complemented with direct hands-on operational experience in service, manufacturing and distribution. He adds high value in both growth (merger & acquisition integration) and turnaround situations. Mr. Doubler has an upbeat “can do” leadership style, with excellent change management and continuous improvement skills, including business process redesign, six sigma and lean manufacturing.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Doubler was CFO and interim COO of an $800 million private-equity owned company where he improved working capital by $40 million in 12 months. He has also served as CFO of a $200 million international subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company, increasing ROI from 3% to 14%, VP/GM of a $250 million division of a publicly-traded company, leading a turnaround that improved profit by $15 million in 12 months, and COO of a $350 million organization, leading the successful integration of 20 acquired business units. In addition, he co-owned and led an information technology services start-up company.
Mr. Doubler holds a Bachelors and Masters of Science from Ohio University, as well as an MBA from Youngstown State University.
Alan E. Grote, VP, North American Sales
As Vice President of Burroughs North American Sales, Alan Grote leads a highly experienced team of sales and support individuals. His dedication to delivering excellent customer service and superior product performance is evident in his sales methodology, which includes ensuring all sales team members are truly Burroughs product experts capable of addressing a client’s most complex needs.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Grote was Vice President of Sales for Unisys Payment Systems. His 30 year career with the company also included roles as Area Director for the Mid-South Region with responsibility for revenues exceeding $40 million annually, and Regional Vice President for the Southern Region under Unisys’ Systems and Technology Group, where he managed the day to day sales, revenue, expenses and profits of the organization.
Mr. Grote holds a Bachelors of Science in Business from the School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, MO.
Larry McCarter, VP Supply Chain Operations and Customer Service
As Vice President of Burroughs Supply Chain Operations and Customers Services, Larry McCarter is focused on retaining Burroughs reputation for innovative supply chain operations and excellent customer services.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. McCarter was Vice President and General Manager of Supply Chain Operations for Unisys Payment Systems. During his 28 year career with the company Mr. McCarter held additional domestic and international leadership roles in a variety of disciplines including Operations, Program Management, and Finance. His broad background has enabled him to deliver proven success in developing global supply chain solutions. As a result his Supply Chain Operations business has received recognition as an industry leader in Six Sigma Lean process capabilities and environmental practices, along with the distinct honor of being named one of the “Best Plants” by Industry Week and the Association for Manufacturing Excellence.
Mr. McCarter is an active member of the Michigan Manufacturing Lean Tour Group and supports the local Political Action Committee. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.
James W. Standing, VP, Latin American Sales
As Vice President of Burroughs Latin American Sales, James Standing has responsibility for the sales of the full Burroughs product line and partner relationships in the Latin American marketplace.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Standing was Vice President of Common Services Operations and International Sales Channels for Burroughs Payment Systems. In that role he led a sales team based in Latin America, Europe and Asia and also managed an operations group responsible for telemarketing and order entry processing.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, Mr. Standing began a 40 year career with Unisys Corporation in Field Engineering and rapidly advanced to his first leadership role as the Regional Marketing Director leading sales representatives in 11 states. He progressed to become the Strategic Marketing Manager for Unisys Direct with a focus in developing new business opportunities. Mr. Standing became the Director of eBusiness in 2000 and took on responsibility for worldwide revenue, gross margin and profit for Unisys Direct.
Mr. Standing holds a Bachelors of Science from the Art Center School.
Ed McHugh, VP, Marketing and Technology
As Vice President of Marketing and Technology for Burroughs, Ed McHugh has overall responsibility for Program Management, Marketing, and Research and Development. His objective is to guide this group of individuals in the pursuit of the industry’s best payments solutions, through market research and a heavy focus on direct customer input.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. McHugh was Vice President of Marketing for Unisys Payment Systems. During his tenure with Unisys Corporation he held positions in Sales, Sales Management, Product and Program Management, Consulting and Services Delivery Management.
With more than 30 years of financial industry experience including retail delivery, cash management, and payment systems expertise, Mr. McHugh is a strategic visionary in his field. He has authored several white papers including: Lockbox 2000- A vision for wholesale and retail lockbox, Payment Image Processing for the Next Generation- Leveraging payment infrastructure to generate fee income, and Web Box- The integration of paper and electronic payments.
Mr. McHugh has participated in speaking engagements at several financial industry seminars including: Bank Administration Institute (BAI) Check and Image Conferences, The Association for Work Process Improvement (TAWPI), Recognition Technology Users Association (RTUA), the AIC Check Imaging Conference and Global Concepts Cash Management Forum. Mr. McHugh holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Loyola University.
Phyllis Darden, VP, Human Resources and Facilities Management
As Vice President of Human Resources and Facilities Management for Burroughs, Phyllis Darden has primary responsibility for developing benefit programs and policies along with overall facilities management for the 800,000 square foot Plymouth, MI headquarters. With over 20 years of human resources experience, she provides strategic support to her counterparts across the organization.
Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Darden was Human Resources Business Partner for Unisys Payment Systems. She began her career with the company in the accounting function transitioning to Human Resources in the late 1980’s. as a Human Resources Consultant with responsibility for recruiting, compensation, and resource development for the Systems and Technology organization, then became the Global Human Resource lead for outsourcing and reclassification initiatives impacting services employees and field service engineers worldwide. She also served as the Human Resources Business Partner supporting the Service Supply Chain Operations and Managed Services Support organizations within Global Outsourcing and Infrastructure Systems (GOIS).
Ms. Darden holds a Masters of Arts in Industrial Relations from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. and the Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM).
Don Kaas, General Counsel, VP, Commercial Mgmt and International Sales Europe/Asia
As General Counsel and Vice President of Commercial Management, Don Kaas oversees contracts management and provides overall legal guidance for all facets of the organization. He also has overall responsibility for the international sales channel in Europe and Asia markets.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Kaas was Vice President Commercial Management for Unisys Payment Systems. In his 25 year career with Unisys Corporation he served in a variety of legal and executive management positions in the US and Europe including Assistant General Counsel- Labor Relations, Vice President and Associate General Counsel- Ethics, General Counsel of both Unisys UK and World Trade subsidiaries, Vice President of Worldwide Operations for Unisys Information Systems unit, and Vice President-Contracts for Unisys North American Operations.
Before joining Unisys, Mr. Kaas was in private legal practice and was a Labor Relations Counsel for Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He holds a Bachelors of Art from New York University and a J.D. from Villanova University and is a member of the Pennsylvania and Federal bars.
Mike Zawalski, Operating Partner, Marlin Equity Partners
Mike Zawalski serves as Chairman of the Board for the Burroughs Payments Systems Inc. and is an Operating Partner with Marlin Equity Partners. He is focused on investment opportunities across multiple sectors, and brings to Burroughs a wealth of executive management and operations experience. His experience is broad based, including manufacturing, distribution, services, technology and consumer-based companies.
Before joining Marlin Equity Partners, he was President and CEO of Workflow One, an $850-million print management, technology and services provider. Before joining Workflow, he was Group President at Gores Technology Group (now the Gores Group) where he was responsible for the due diligence and operations for numerous Gores’ portfolio companies. Previously, he held senior executive positions at Mail-Well, Ryder, The Coleman Company, Quaker Oats, Heller Financial and Arthur Andersen.
Mr. Zawalski is a Certified Public Accountant and earned a Masters of Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.S. in Accounting and Business Administration from Illinois State University.
